34 RESTAURANT

PORTUGUESE DESIGN

34 Restaurant in New Orleans with Chef Emeril Lagasse

34 was a deeply personal project, designed for two very close friends. Emeril’s vision for the space was a heartfelt homage to his Portuguese heritage and to his parents, who played pivotal roles in fostering his passion for food and becoming a chef. Being entrusted to bring that vision to life was both a tremendous honor.

We collaborated with a remarkable architect from New Orleans to curate the perfect finishes and achieve the ideal aesthetic. Together, we worked with Ann Sacks to source Portuguese-style tiles, creating custom colors that were woven throughout the restaurant. Given my close relationship with the client, it was crucial for me to infuse personal and meaningful touches that honored both his heritage and his parents.

We selected fabrics that harmonized with the tile work, integrating contemporary lighting and wooden furniture to soften the space. With its high ceilings, we strategically incorporated ceiling elements to maintain a sense of warmth and intimacy without feeling overwhelming.

A particularly special design element emerged during a Saturday chat with the client’s wife. Together, we conceptualized a striking entryway that set the tone for the entire dining experience.

This project was a true labor of love, and one I am especially proud of.
