ASPEN RESIDENCE

MODERN ECLECTIC

Imagine merging the grandeur of Victorian architecture from 1889 with the bold energy of modern eclecticism—this Aspen home does just that, seamlessly blending two design worlds into one stunning, personalized space. Designer Laurie Pearson of L. Pearson Design was thrilled to design such a beautiful space that once proudly stood as one of the original buildings on Main Street in Aspen, Colorado.

Once a prominent landmark, the house faced demolition in the 1960s but was saved and relocated by a local family. After decades of neglect, the Hendry family partnered with F&M Architects in 2017 to restore and reimagine the structure while respecting its historic significance. Led by the homeowners’ love for bold, unique pieces, every room reflects a seamless marriage of history and contemporary flair—no more so than in the living spaces where art deco, Victorian, and modern aesthetics collide.

In the Victorian-inspired areas, we embraced rich tones of gold and black to create striking chairs and a sculptural, art deco-inspired sofa. Antiques meet modernity in the form of curated photography, framed in a Victorian style, while a custom acrylic player piano and an art deco coffee table add whimsical character to the space.

Moving into the home’s more modern areas, we introduced airy, minimalist design elements. In the dining room, a Gracie wallpaper inspired by Aspen’s natural beauty compliments light wood furniture, transitioning seamlessly from the dark, moody Victorian side to a more open, contemporary vibe. The kitchen gleams with the clean lines of Holly Hunt light fixtures, creating a sleek, minimalist aesthetic that’s both functional and beautiful.

The master bedroom features a custom, curved bed that faces expansive windows—allowing the homeowners to enjoy breathtaking views of the Aspen mountains while still savoring the luxury of refined modern design. Downstairs, the media room pulses with rich Jim Thompson fabrics and the luminous artistry of Chihuly glass, while the custom wine room showcases the homeowner’s extensive collection with yellow Pavoni leather sling chairs that balance bold design with sophistication.

This home, at its core, is a celebration of contrast—a sophisticated mix of the past and present that feels fresh, daring, and uniquely tailored to the homeowner’s vision.
